Smooth nautical access and excellent port facilities
Seagoing vessels can reach the port of Ghent from the North Sea after a short voyage on the Scheldt and the seacanal from Terneuzen to Ghent.
This canal that is free of currents and 18 nautical miles long is accessible to post-panamax vessels up to 92,000 DWT having a maximum length of 265 metres, a beam of 37 metres and a draught of 12.5 metres. The straight and wide canal guarantees a smooth and fast access to the port area.
There are 5 docks in the port area (Grootdok, Sifferdok, Mercatordok, Rodenhuizedok and the new Kluizendok), representing a total quay length of 27 kilometres, and 4 ro/ro jetties.
